Why Zoro has almost 50% more votes than Wanji :@
Zoro has a massive fanbase in the the community and Oda has been playing it very safe/careful with him unlike Sanji, trying to avoid controversy with him, as opposed to Sanji where he took massive risks and paid the price for it.
WCI was really divisive in the community and Oda has not handled Sanji very well over the and post TS, especially in terms of combat and feats. But also really controversial behaviour at times and constantly making him look bad, whereas Zoro was his golden child along with Luffy and he made them shine as much as possible instead.
Oda might have thought he's writing Sanji well and thus how he wanted him to be portrayed dnd that's fair but it upset a LOT of people massively including myself and WCI was difficult to read at times due to it but also the post TS in general.
Oda has been doing much better with Sanji at Wano though, I've really enjoyed him again finally. People keep hating on the Queen fight but I really enjoyed and loved it and him destroying the raid suit was peak writing and character development for him.
He baited us with "Evil Sanji"and asking Zoro to "kill him if necessary" as well as potentially keeping and using the raid suit in future but I'm glad Oda didn't forget about Hell's Memories and Diable Jambe and gave Diable a much needed upgrade finally too!
I also really liked his moments with the geisha and the mouse and the throwback to his past, it was very well set up and a sweet parallel to it.
I actually am more fond of WCI now than I was before too but some things will always bother me about it too. I think having to read this weekly and getting 25% less chapters a year or so, 1 less chapter a month than normal hasn't helped things either ofc.
Zoro has always been more popular from what I've seen but I may have seen Sanji be more popular than Zoro in one region for these polls but I may be wrong on that lol. For a Shonen series, people will prefer more "badass, cool, traditionally masculine" and thus "safer" characters like Zoro by far too but Sanji is still far more interesting to me right now.
I'm getting tired of Zoro still having so many mysteries to him and a lack of development by comparison now.
Sanji's extra backstory and storyline during the post TS may be controversial but it also helped answered a lot of mysteries and reveal some confirmed foreshadowings from pre TS and gave us so much more insight into his psyche and character, so even if it was flawed, I still really appreciate the further insight into who he is, where he comes from, why and how he is the way he is and thus more information on how and why he ended up he Zeff.
I really can't wait for Sanji to reunite with Zeff and the Baratie staff at some point. Their new dessert restaurant would be perfect for his meant to be wife Pudding as she's a chocolatier ofc!A literal couple of chefs, husband and wife team!
