Das Mafia
Critique of The Mafia Community & Resignation Letter
Friedrich Borto & Karl Typo
Throughout the 6/7 years I have been playing taking long breaks every time and then I have realized the following;
- only a small percentage of mafia players actually play the game to “have fun” or any reason along these lines.
The other smaller percentage is with the people who someone asks to play but aren’t that interested in it themselves, they end up not preforming well, as expected.
The rest are the problem and that’s where the huge majority of players are people suffering from superiority complex and attention seeking people, a good example for the sake of the argument chosen because I care not if I hurt their feelings is @God Of Mafia, the name he unironically chose should tell you what I'm talking about, that’s a severe case though. other less severe cases of superiority complex include things like endlessly bragging endlessly about the few good things they ever did through the years or saying things like “told you so” “I tried to warn you” and other acts of blaming other people for not listening without actually acting accordingly, and if did really try but failed to convince others; it’s really their fault of for not being able to in most cases.
On a side note: generally speaking, townies getting mislynched or shot by other town specially early-on is in most cases the fault of the mislynched town generally for not defending themselves properly when accused, playing badly or sometimes both, I never felt remorse for those.
- Mods should be more decisive when dealing with constantly shitty players ruining the game for other players and showing no improvement in their attitude throughout several games. tough but fuck them, they ruin the game on the website.
- if there's a wish then it has to be that hosts implement mechanics that encourages the individual efforts rather than the group efforts that most of the times gets fucked for a reasons out of your hand and you end up wasting all the efforts in the drain.
----
- As to why I am writing this, it's just to convince these lovely fuckers to stop summoning me every now and then and why I am serious when I say it's becoming unpleasant for me to play a game, for reasons mentioned above among others, unchangeable things like understanding the real reason I play, and not liking it, it has been a good experience for a while but not any more and the real reason is that the future me won't stick to something I never said so there you go bitch.
Anyhow I am very grateful for all the things I have learned. friends, bros, grandpas and mamas I have made along the way, but it's time to stop responding to your summons. miss me? would love it if you would contact me on discord. I might host that one game I have wanted to host for a long time, but other than that... Typo Out. *mic drop*

why r ppl quitting

yall can take a break, but dont quit smh

do agree about certain rules eventually need to be established. im gna start to host more games myself and will be pretty strict and competitive with it.

@AL sama @Dragomir and whoever is modding the section. is it possible to have games that r ranked and games that arent? so a game thats ranked is meant to be more competitive, more balanced, and more punishing to excessive inactivty/fluffing/bad behavior/excessive drama/angle shooting/excessive language/toxicity/crying or anything that ruins the spirit of the game.

whereas the normal games would be more lenient, more beginner friendly and generally more chill/more for fun rather than competitive. here hosts can try new setup ideas or w.e they want as well.

ranked game will count toward ur year record or w.e system that we can develop. unranked games dont count.

i will shift more to a host than a player for the rest of the year so if this idea is welcomed we can start working on making rules and regulations for it. are yall down?
just a quick thought your idea is way too serious

we play mafia for fun not to get stressed

if a game is too restrictive and serious then people won't enjoy it

well there will still be normal and casual games for people to chill and have fun. its just there should also be games for people that want to play some real mafia. maybe even simpler/semi-vanilla games to be more competitive

right now lots of stuff dont get punished cuz games r too 4fun, it drives away more serious players and makes the games too swingy at times. like right now inactive players acting too scummy just get ignored cuz its became a habit lol

we can have a ranked and a normal mode for both kinds of players. things like blatant trolling or fluffing and all that nonesense will be policy lynched and stuff in serious games but can be tolerated more in casual ones. dont think that's stress people out much really. it'll just create a more cleaner game

casual games will still be around for those who want it. i can take the initiative and start hosting more serious games and mark them all as [ranked]. players can feel free to join. the rules will be a bit more strict thats all, and players performance will be noted down.

Our Mafia community seems to be more serious and less fun than we used to be a year back. Sad to see people come in to play big games only to say they are quiting games altogether.

I'm probably not the best person to give my cents on this topic,, but the games we win matters less than the fun memories we share after weeks, months and even years thereafter.

Be back to play one game once in a while,,

I'll be here to spectate and help out but I am done playing in general. Its quite taxing, and it consumes a lot of time. I had fun times and good memories from games but I also realized how much I enjoyed my break from mafia.

So Arcane will be the last time I'll play mafia because it was the last game I signed up before my break happened.

I appreciate the community; the hosts and players here as well on the other site.

But I am also very tired. Very exhausted. I don't have the same excitement as I used to and I don't think I will. I hope people can understand that but I'll be around on the site. So its not like I'm gone permanently.

first and foremost who the hell is this barto guy? I don't even know who that is and I haven't played mafia in ages. So, why am I even being mentioned in relation to you leaving a forum I rarely post on is what I am wondering? And, if you are gonna bump your gums about me at least be correct in what you are saying about me. My Mvp's and my gameplay and award wins speak volumes for me. Of course there may be people who are better than me. That happens to everyone in whatever you do. That doesn't mean I don't have a high amount of confidence in myself. So, if ya don't like me, well get in line. It's a long one. Make no mistake nothing you could say would hurt my feelings because honestly I don't give two shits what someone I don't really know thinks of me. Opinions are like assholes my guy.

Either way, seeya ningen.

And, me and this guy have had many disagreements. I'm nine times out of ten just fucking off. I don't take myself that seriously when it comes to a game that is like 60 percent skill (whatever you consider skill, that's subjective), 15 percent luck of the draw, and then 20 percent other people's actions and reactions to events majority of the time out of your control. The game can be serious but having fun is the motive and I like to think throughout the recent years I have made shit fun for everyone at some point. I like to laugh and enjoy myself. Life is so fucking serious off this motherfucker that sometimes I'd love to come somewhere and just forget about the world for awhile.

People grow old and their lives get new focuses. Like when i was 20 i played 2-3 games at same time, hosted games that would drive hosts insane.

But those are different times, i am 27 soon, i have a job, relationship and other hobbies i wanna pursue.

Playing mafia is fine and all but when you get the toxicity like the weeb game had at one point and some people taking this game WAY too serious to the point of burning bridges with people just to win or spite... nah, that aint for me

Mafia is there to have fun

Rather than mafia, it is certain players that ruin the fun and make u wanna quit playing with them

to you guys and anyone thats thinking of leaving @Zemmi @MUUGEN @Bortolomeo

would u atleast care to join every once in awhile to play really big games and just have fun with it with 0 tryharding? hope this isnt too much too ask. ik every needs a break here, i do too. id like it if we don't let external things get in the way of the community we built for years.

u guys are all OG players really. you have been playing this for awhile. its understandable that you are tired and arent feeling the same as u used to when u started it. there r lots of newer players here about to fill in ur shoes and experience this stuff for their first time. it will be really nice to play in every once in awhile to have that fresh feeling of playing with newer faces again and share ur experiences with the newer folks.

none will pressure u to it. the site is open for everyone and everyone is welcomed to come play when they have some time to do so. subs will always be there if u r unable to stick with the game or keep up. we can force players to play but we can never force someone to have fun. if u really really arent having fun then sorry about that. i am really not sure how to fix that, but i and the whole community will try our best to keep this as fun and fair as possible for everyone

enjoy your breaks guys, well done throughout the years. until next time

And everyone needs a break from time to time. This thing can mentally drain you at some point. I even stepped back because I didn't feel I was enjoying myself and just needed to decompress because of drama in discords, and people trying to project their misconceptions of you to everyone else and people fucking buying it. I am the type of a person I tow a very black and white line to a lot of things. When someone takes my character and misjudges me when they don't know a god damn thing about me yeah I tend to have a problem with that. Until you take the time to actually get to know me only then can you do that in my eyes.

Reality is I been at this internet/forum thing for a long fucking time. And, reality is most people (not me of course) come here and play a facade. Because who they are on here aren't who they really are off this information highway and that will always rub me the wrong way. When it comes to mafia there isn't a book displaying how it Is played. Everything I did and do/learned has been through trial and error. And, yeah people have done shit that made me feel like sometimes this shit isn't worth it. But, the other side of me who is determined to get better at this shit refused to walk away. I don't know over the last year or so what changed in form of either community but it does suck. I would have played here by now but my reason for not is I feel like the sheer volume and my ability to not be able to sit at a computer for more than nine hours a day and catch up, play my part just hinders the process for me. And, that in itself sucks on so many levels.

If people really have set their mind on leaving then we shouldn't try too hard to persuade them into not leaving. I am sure they must have reached this decision by thinking thoroughly and will probably return if they they ever had the urge to play again.

Also overall quality.of games

Same old set ups, abilities and so on
People should try to be more creative
Nah, I don't think creativity is the issue, a lot of people have great approach over game setups here and even more since some of them are new to the game creation.
