Multiple events one after other adding up probably.
- Seeing himself as merely a pawn used by nobles
- Being part of a really unstable pirate crew, probably Xebec being betrayed by his crew contributed to his change too
- That time him and King were being expetimented on, but can't make anything out of that except the torture contributed and he became a lot more violent in return
Nobles, God Valley happened before Rescuing King. The personality change happened after he was captain of Beasts Pirates and before coming to Wano. That made him lose hope that he can change the world. A possible betrayal by a crew member considering Kaido's words to scabbards that Pirates are known to betray

Isn't that only at the Zoan awakening stage? I don't think their wills effect the users before then. Perhaps the user gets a bit influenced by said Zoan's attitude like maybe the degree of aggressiveness/passiveness of said Zoan, but on the Will/Soul side; not until the Awakening stage.
I keep thinking its from eating the fruit too at least for some reason, I've probably misread or confused myself as usual ofc. I know some people said recently Luffys erratic/"joyful" behavioru vs Kaido in Gear 5 is literally due to the influence of his Zoan and its awakening, That does make a lot of sense.
I think Luffy is gonna be like Shanks and will start off jovial vs Blackbeard and then snap and go savage on him at some point or someone else at least? Maybe Akainu but I doubt it ofc? Luffy does have very personal history with both so maybe someone else actually instead of them? But he might show some savagery vs both of them too?
I know the Impel Down guards took on a very much more primal state of mind with their awakenings, they reverted to their bloodthirsty, savage, primal instincts and thus acted on instinct/impulse with no cognitive thinking at all.
Since it seems to be the Zoan's awakening that affects the DF's user as some of you are telling me ofc, I wonder if Kaido does get awakening assuming he hasn't used it already and thus if it will affect his personality somehow?
Big Mom has severe trust/abandonment issues herself and she never even knew the true nature/side of Carmel as far as know too! Imagine if she knew on top of that too!?

Yeah there was also that panel of Big Mom saying "why does everyone I trust eventually leave me?" during Onigashima when Nami and Usopp rescued Tama from her

I think someone here mentioned before that Kaido maybe didn't use awakening till now because he still doesn't have full controle over it. Perhaps he completely loses reason like those back in impel down and becomes a raging dragon beast if he ever awakens.
I'm guessing the panel I saw was a mistranlation then. Quite annoying when that happens.
Wisdom King makes much more sense ofc given what we know and have seen. Yamato being the guardian deity makes a lot more sense than it being Kaido too naturally. I did find it extremely weird/jarring that Kaido would be called a protective deity for Wano so that clears it up, thanks.
I also like to think that despite what Sengoku said there was some genuine camaraderie between Xebec and his crew
The only outlier of Rocks was probably Whitebeard really

Yeah I'd love that tbh. We know nobody has really challenged Kaido since Oden, nobody ever did that damage to him again, ever brought him so close to death or further too. We also know he got his DF at God's Valley so he couldn't have awakened back then either.
I was really hoping Kaido would go on a truly berserk Oni rampage with his awakening and it would confirm that he killed Morias crew too then but this time he goes berserk not just due to personal reasons on what could have happened between them potentially but to his awakening and thus is even more dangerous, destructrive, enraged, primal etc.
Until it was mentioned recently, I had the headcanon that Bepo's Sulong was being held off because he had no control/experience with it and it would be last ditch resort for him to save/protect Law but it was said somewhere recently, I think in the manga itself or somewhere by Shachi and Penguin that Bepo does have Sulong and can use it seemingly well them?
We also had Pekoms rampaging with Sulong to be fair?
Even if Kaido doesn't ramapage with awakening, we should have gotten that with Jack at least given how impatient, hot tempered, brutal and brutish he is.
To humour the raid failing cult, I used to want it to fail too as formerly part of it and my wish for it failing would involve Kaido awakening and going berserk like Big Mom did at WCI but much more savagely and focused in a way, where he is just hell bent on killing everyone, performing a one man/oni/dragon genocide there and then..
It would be the perfect throwback to Impel Down as you werer referring too ofc.

Higurashi probably stirred up shit in the crew with her DF and I bet the WG did shit too to try and divide them as well. Divide and conquer the mightiest crew with misinformation/gossip.

Not quite a mistranslation
The original line “Kaido is held to be the Wisdom King who protects the nation”
Viz translated it as guardian deity, same as when Hyou said Gear 4 Luffy looks exactly like a guardian deity(wisdom king)
The reason was probably because wisdom king means little to English speaker so they just simplify it to deity
The whole “he protects Wano” thing is just the propaganda they’ve been spreading, just like how young Wano kids think Orochi is so mighty

Ahhh, I see! That's good to know and does make sense given that reasoning too. I didn't know of the wisdom kings until the OP community started talking about them and i've never heard of anyone mention them before I don't think before this arc or anywhere so that does make sense even more!
Yeah that's true, we had that Orochi propaganda in early Wano. Not surprising for Kaido to be said to be some mighty protector then too to think of it too.
