Tagging @Lord Melkor here too as neither of you seem to be getting this. While Town theoretically had. A chance to stop the Mafia kills, it was effectively not a chance, because if they didn't stop both they lose. And this next part is for you Melkor:

First, we can't really count on the Mafia screwing up the lynch there. That was a huge mistake by them. You could argue it was unfair on them. At the start of Day 5, the numbers were 5/3/1. If Lanji gets lynched there and I don't get modkilled, it's 4/3/1 going into the night, and then the next town death has it 3/3/1 = game over.

So town got super lucky with the Lanji thing. If we assume that happens again and I don't get modkilled, then we go into the night 5/3/1 - Mafia kill twice and it's 3/3/1. Game over again.

The advantage was already in the hands of Mafia the moment Day 5 began. The game was all but won. This is why, in the dead chat, I explained that it was a bit harsh on the town to only give them two mislynches before losing control of the lynch.
Town only surviving two mislynches is not due in part to the game design but more that mafia got an extra kill due to the bounty hunt. Fuji placing the bounty on a townie gave mafia an extra kill that night. Had Fuji placed a bounty on mafia then town gets an extra kill that night. Your second scenario will never happen since I'm that case, it's always 4/3/1 going into the next day phase.

The bounty hunter kill was a wildcard. It isn't something I could logically account for in the number of mislynches town can have. It functions similarly to the vig in that if the vig kills a bunch of townies at night then town obviously gets fewer mislynches before losing the game, while if the opposite happens then town gets more mislynches. I can't predict what the vig will do nor can I predict who Fuji places a bounty on. Pein had a bounty on him at one point, he could have died to a bounty hunter and that could have very easily changed the trajectory of the game.

I didn't design the game for town to only get 2 mislynches. They had more but the number of mislynches they get changes depending on the vig, bounties, and even the senate mechanics.

That's not mean to say that town lost the game cause of Fuji, that definitely wasn't the case. Town lost cause they derped.

Well, I can't speak for your personal circumstances - nor would I presume to do so. But with optimism and a willingness to bet on yourself, you will oft be surprised as to what outcomes can come from that, even if it does involve a great deal of risk. Even sheer coincidences or events that feel like the will of providence are often birthed from small things that you can influence.
