Kaido did acknowledge Zoro strength by telling Zoro he scarred him. A feat only achieved by one other person in the entire manga. Even Luffy couldn't scar title with his internal destruction attacks that break things apart from inside out. Those attacks didn't even chip a scale.

Zoro is much more than a fighter. He's always been the one to keep Luffy in check. Go back and read the Luffy vs Usopp incident.
