The Oni has always fascinated me. They're clearly a huge part of the ancient world, but we never hear about them, as if they've been erased. This is why I believe Joy Boy was an Oni: the Oni were erased because Joy Boy was one of them, and they wanted to erase Joy Boy from history.

Yamato is important because she's bridging the gap between the Onis and the world to end a history of division and discrimination. I also think Yamato/Kaido are Joy Boy's descendants.

Yamato = Joy Boy's descendant
Luffy = Inheritor of Joy Boy's Will/Fruit
Zoro = Inheritor of the Will of Joy Boy's best friend Ryuma

Its like @Rottkins and I think @EtenBoby said too, Kaido is like an Onion, or Oni are like Oni-ons. They have layers.

Since we know giants were enslaved and betrayed too by Carmel, Oars was a continent puller apparently and even the likes of someone like Kuma was labelled as a tyrant by the WG, I wouldnt be surprised if ancient giants/Oni were enslaved and forced to do horrible things too.

Something like that probably, since kid he always hated the idea to be a dog of the CD. His Kingdom was gonna sell him to the WG so they can get their "freedom" as green bull said. Kaido probably always hated that idea how those scumbags are the only ones that can grant freedom as long as they meet their demands (using Kaido as bargain chip in this case, or pay hefty tributes)

In his own fucked up mind over time, he wants to drag those CD's all down to the battlefield with them instead of just using pawns like they tried to do Kaido, but it extends beyond that, becoming a bit more fucked up like the strong ruling the weak instead of the weak (CD) ruling the strong, which is fucked up either way

Honestly we should have gotten an entire chapter of Kaido reminiscing through his past and ideas as he loses consciousness, he has some amazing quotes as a villain.

Yeah man I genuinely empathise with you there. I had extremely high hopes for him, especially on top of his dialogue, but his intro, his attitude, the build up since Thriller Bark and so on. All those potential teases/clues since Punk Hazard too.

Marco OP Theorist had some great ideas for him, there was the Shuten Douji parallels and so on.

Still better than what Zoro got but barely.

Kaido deserved so much better. The Beast Pirates too.

He was probably dropping Acid when designing the gifters too! More like thrifters! Thrift shop Beast Pirates! (Calamities were absolute fire though, especially King literally ofc!) King is my favourite right hand atm tbh.

She won’t be. She’ll be an adventurer with a Dream and a mission. Kumas gone. His fruit is up in the air. And Pell may also have died and his falcon fruit is also up in the air. Oda can power her up very easily.
