This makes the most sense honestly. This is also what I originally thought.
Basically in my mind it's either exactly what you said or coby someone managed to capture her which causes conflict between him and luffy. Both would be great scenarios though I think both would end up the same since even if he were to legit capture her he would let her escape. And it makes so much damn sense her joining sword since all the warlords so far are joining forces with some group
