I never found the gym leaders to be hard. You should be good with the levels you have.

I didn’t have any trouble with the gym leaders, the Fire elite four can be annoying but that’s it

You might a bit underlevel'd.

In bdsp the elite four all got a huge buff. They have max ev's and competitive movesets, but their teams are the same as in the original games. So it's a pretty big difficulty spike.
