He wasn't talking about affecting objects, like a lot of fans theorized. Because all paramecia awakenings have been shown to do that. Even Kid and Law's powers, which work differently from Doffy's.

He was talking about awakening. Awakening is rare, probably as rare as CoC. That's why very few people have it.

Woulda been a lot cooler to see the Tobi Roppo or All Stars be quasi-awakened fruit users, resorting to awakening at the end of their fights but being driven by pure instinct at that point. You could juxtapose their failed awakenings with Luffy (and possibly Kaido) later when he awakens his fruit.

Too bad Oda decided to put bare minimum effort into Onigashima.

Lucci is a high IQ individual capable of awakening. Pirates are (unsurprisingly) low IQ brutes incapable of awakening. Thats it.

Oda wrote himself into a corner. He could not give them awakening because they would be too strong. The fights were already reaching fairy tail level of CIS

I'd say it's the opposite tbh. Esp after seeing the random Zoan in ID. Myth Zoan might be harder to achieve than regular ones though.
