I wouldn’t think the decision is his alone, but come on…he’s made Shueisha and Toei so much fucking money over the years, he’s earned enough autonomy at this point to make his feelings known at will. Me bitching here isn’t gonna take away any of his breaks, but if this is such a stressful undertaking, maybe he oughta reconsider his process.
his process is that he loves to make the comic and wants to do it until its over. he has a very lenient schedule for a mangaka and hes allowed to take breaks pretty much whenever he wants. this wasnt always the case, but like you said, hes made them a lot of money and has a lot of leverage. it's not like one piece will get cancelled if it doesn't make a weekly deadline the way it would have 15 or 20 years ago.
