He's writing a story with a living, breathing World. A lot of the aspects of the One Piece World, mimic the harsh realities our own. That's what he's portraying. It doesn't mean it's a reflection of his own personal beliefs.
No, but he’s not exactly a feminist either…he’s just a developmentally stunted Japanese schoolboy who seemingly never learned how women actually talk and respond to dangerous situations despite having a wife and two daughters, but he managed to hone a skill that appeals mostly to other awkward teenage boys and he definitely knows that audience better than anyone else :zorothink:
I don’t think it goes that deep bro. That is low key touching the fabric of what it means to be human. The fact that all of us feel a certain way towards something indicates said feeling is in line with human nature. You can’t go up and change that, you can only try to limit the bad aspects.
You got me with the original sin analogy. That is what it looks like lmao, The Atheist Account of the original sin for man with the unholy trinity of Liberalism, Materialism and Feminism lol.

I don’t think he or any other mangaka needs to be either or to do their manga lmao. There’s plenty of female characters across the board, good, bad and ugly. I didn’t think I’d defend Oda on here but this whole Oda is a misogynist just because of how he writes certain female characters is ludicrous, it’s a Japanese cartoon at the end of the day. It doesn’t have to conform to any of your moral or political beliefs lmao
They don’t all act like damsels in distress with no agency, which describes most female characters he’s introduced, so I don’t think we need to put him on a progressive pedestal just because he doesn’t seem to outwardly hate women. He’s written Nami and Robin well enough, but let’s not sit here and act like many others weren’t just coat racks with huge boobs and little impact in the way of dialogue or personality.

Why do you think he's misogynistic though? Coz he includes females in his manga? Or is it because women in OP wear whatever they want? Or is it because they have near-perfect bodies just like a lot of models we see online? or is it that they're not as strong as their male counterparts, which is also very similar to reality?

It's not used just strictly towards women though. You can argue it's used almost as much towards men in One Piece as well. Hell, in Wano alone, pretty much all 9 of the scabbards fell victim to it. Oda just likes the "Damsel in distress" trope. Woman, man.... Makes no difference.
At the end of the day, it's used to set up the Straw Hats always being the ones to save everyone.

a lot of them still dress conservatively, or have normal or weird bodies the same as the men, and many are as strong or stronger. we all know boa and big mom low diff 99 percent of characters. i think it usually boils down to the protagonist is a man so its bad, and some characters have big boobs so its bad because women with big boobs are evil and can't be depicted in media and need to be shamed irl
No. But sexist yes, like all of us.
Oda, like all of us, lives in a sexist society. So it happens that sometimes he uses sexist trope or sexualisation without being aware of the problem.
No, there is definitely sexism even beside the point of sexualization, but it's not like it was something systematic, it's just a few occurence, nothing too dramatic.

There’s a lot to complain about but Oda being misogynist isn’t one plain and simple lol. The fact that these labels made their way towards authors of Japanese cartoons because of how they author their cartoon pretty much like their fellow Japanese cartoon artists is very telling. Really chips away at any meaning those labels held when it is wildly thrown around like a boomerang.
