In no world would Batman ever search for the day when he could retire. Batman is who he is, Bruce Wayne has long died, he’s merely a face for Batman. Bale focusing on Batman being a tool for Bruce Wayne is the opposite of the characters actual motivation.

And “I’m not going to kill you but doesn’t mean I have to save you” is just wrong.
