Both were absolutely fucked.

Law relies heavily on his Devil Fruit, and Blackbeard can counter it easily. Kid has weak Haki, and Shanks is a Haki master trained by Roger and Rayleigh from childhood.

Law was in a much better situation, but, still, he just doesn't have the crew to fight against Blackbeard's Officers.

Either way, it's clear Oda wants to give Blackbeard and Shanks a shit ton of hype; the Road to Laugh Tale special series did the same. Law and Kid will come back, they were just used to make it clear that Blackbeard and Shank are on another level.
