Are you familiar with how dopamine works? We are overstimulated with small pleasures every day(social media, movies, music, porn and so on) everyday. That satiates our desire to achieve more, technology has made society hedonistic. This has nothing to do with maturity or mental illness. We are simply facing a new psycho social problem:everything is made to catch our attention and release small amounts of dopamine in our brains to make us addicted to stuff. As for the other stuff, yeah we are facing a cultural/social engineering that makes people lazy/coward/childish.A life without ambition can also be attributed to certain religious views, since some religions require one to not seek riches, fame and so on...
Oh, I absolutely know about how things are designed to overstimulate our minds. However, even then, it is possible to switch off the computer, it is possible to foster relationships with family and friends. I managed to stem my internet and game addiction and now spend most of my time doing more "real" activities, for a lack of a better term. I've grown my own garden, cultivated my marriage, started learning an instrument and do more exercise. In addition to this, I do activities with my friends irl.

My heart bleeds when I see these kids here in the city.
So many things they are missing growing up.

City dwellers also have a higher suicide risk.
Oh, I don't even live in a proper city. I live in a cul-de-sac outside of one, but I want to have a place with nature outside.

Those are the best places to live:small towns near urban centers. You get the benefits of both.Mate, people are ignorant about how the world works, most don't know how bad the modern life is fucking up with their mental, physical and moral health.A fish doesn't know he lives in the ocean. How is the average joe breaking from the bad habits if he doesn't even know what those are?

You are in a way, correct, but I am living proof that the average joe can break those habits. I was a right proper man-child for such a long time.

Easier said than done, that's like telling a drug / alcohol addict “just stop consuming it".
Addictions are hard to beat.

If by "city" you mean fully fledged downtown New York super urbanized area that's not what I was talking about.
I don't live in the city center either, there's a lot of green here (for city standards) but it's nothing compared to the village where I grew up.

That's something entirely different tho.
Why do humans need fame and riches??
Ambitions is not tied to financial gains or popularity or "climbing the social ladder". One may argue that to consciously reject a socially accepted career oriented lifestyle and shifting the focus to a simple life instead, a strong ambition is required.

As for the other stuff, yeah we are facing a cultural/social engineering that makes people lazy/coward/childish.
These days everything is designed to turn us into consumers. To achieve this, non-existent needs are created because only when we think we need something we'll buy it and want more of it.
Endless amounts of movies, series, comics, sport shows, the latest technology, music etc... Streaming platforms advertisments that sound like LISTEN TO MILLIONS OF SONGS NOW will never not be ridiculous to me because who needs a million fucking songs (that sound so similar you can't even tell them apart)?

The same goes for industrial foods, cigarettes, alcohol, which contain so many chemicals and additives that are designed to make us addicted.

This is capitalism at it's best trying to reach every last corner of our societies and lives.

Look up dopamine fasting. People who practice dopamine fasting deliberately limit their exposure to dopamine stimuli, some even go so far as to refuse eye contact with other people because social interactions, too, release dopamine.

I've been doing dopamine fasting before I knew there's a word for it. It makes you appreciate happy situations more because you experience less of them.

I live in a small town, especially by UK standards, but I want to live in a tiny village..

The moment you realized there was something wrong, you were no longer an average joe.
I suppose, I didn't really think of it that way. I kind pf don't want to think of myself as anything other than that though lol.

America is the biggest joke on “democracy” at the moment. A former president is indicted in the same charges that Hilary was acquitted. The current president’s son is caught on tape having sex with underage girls & influence peddling - not charged. Talk about abuse of power

....B-but T-Trump. R-right g-guys? :seriously:

Due to the tribalism of American politics, the partisanship of American media and it's corporate sugar daddies who wish to influence the world beyond their products, we ignore one sin but highlight another. Not only that, it is common for the gravity of some actions to become magnified simply due to he who committed it.

Long story short. Bias is WILD in the states.
