His fruit was revealed to be special only 30 chapters before was not very good critics .
Oda nevers foreshadow anything directly. ( He can fight longer even after getting tired ) momo asked question does he know about zoan .
Luffy was always meant to be like sun god / warrior of liberation . And his fruit awakening is triggered by his death which is completely fine imo . What better emotion than death itself
