I am so salty, it's not even that the NFL destroyed defense. They just destroyed it for the teams that aren't preferred.
The NFL became semi-retarded in 2005 when Bill Polian cried to the competition committee to take out head hunting cause they kept getting their asses kicked in the snow in Foxborogh against those defenses. Then went full retard in 2011 when they introduced illegal contact. Basically from 2011-onward it's more flag football/game of skill/space than real football. Look at the passing numbers of the 30th ranked offense in the league now and compare them to like the Joe Montana 49ers in their prime, and they're comparable. Add to that the cashcow reffing. PM18 and TB12 retired? Need to find the new golden boy. And there you have 2 of the worst officiated SBs ever (49ers robbed in SB54 and Eagles semi-robbed last year, not as bad as 49ers robbery but still affected the outcome).

The Lions would not have a ring (maybe 1-2 or best if we're being generous) if the refs were good, they would just be watchable.
I think most years other teams had better teams, I just want fair competition. Rival fans actually pity the Lions, because the refs are that bad towards them.
