It baffles me how a guy with astigmatism can think that drawing messy, confusing backgrounds is a good idea. The earlier arcs had such clean backgrounds and straight lines. I speculate that he doesn't properly see half of what he's drawing
Oda's last known assistant Shibata went on to make stuff like this.
His works haven't had long runs sadly but his art is great and it shows from his coloring and lining that he inherited and greatly improved on Oda's style. I think if he were still around or Oda gave another assistant a chance, we could've seen the art get a great boost.
