Unlike Paramecia and Logia Devil Fruits, Zoans are said to have "a will of their own," even before consumption.[4] When Kaku received his Devil Fruit, he sensed a strange, otherworldly power coming off of it, comparing it to gravity.[5]

They seek out their ideal owners and since Big Mom stole the Seiryuu fruit from Ivankov and gave it to Kaido, I think thats why Kaido wasnt able to awaken his fruit as the Seiryuu is meant to be a guardian deity, to protect and be good basically AFAIK.
I think Blackbeard described the Yami Yami as calling out to him and its been called the most evil fruit by Sengoku IIRC. That adds fuel to my beliefs that its actually a Mythical Zoan, a Moon God fruit.
The Yami Yami is just too weird and can nullify other DFs somehow, plus we don't know how BB stole the Gura Gura from WB and we know from Saturn now, that DF powers can be gained without eating the fruit too, so that feels like a subtle hint to what BB did too.
