My idea is this - if we take into account that the giant's normal hand is several times larger than Luffy's - and its initial state exceeds what we see when Luffy uses Hone Fusen / Gomu Gomu no Gigant Pistol, we can come to one conclusion.
A giant using Luffy's basic techniques could probably sink islands with ease.
