Just recently caught up to that and I stopped around where Yuki showed up. It was a bit weird, Yuji didn’t even get the final blow but the anime had him dramatically cowering in fear at the end which was a solid substitute. But he was around for like a while and had to go any way.

For me, the Mahito's end was satisfying. He was a menace and Gege should not have allowed him to continue. Otherwise, more members of main cast would have died.
Mahito carried JJK in S1 and S2 of anime.
Post-Shibuya JJK suffered from lack of villain like Mahito.
I still think Mahito was more interesting and better villain than Sukuna.

an inferior Mahito in his own weakened state had did more to Todo in the same amount of time that Sukuna has with him than Sukuna has been able to do to todo, iirc todo outsmarted Sukuna while Mahito out performed todo….
I’ve only talked about Goatjo since his fight with Sukuna and against you and linyagi really I’ve talked about Yuki and every tiger character far more than I’ve mentioned Gojo but sure.

Instinct or not, Mahito was more entertaining. And I like him because Gege showed how he struggled and improved over time. Sukuna is just shown to be strong from the get go.
One clear difference I noticed was how Sukuna killed Higuruma in front of Yuji. He killed him because Higuruma failed to evolve further and there was nothing interesting in him anymore.
But the way Mahito did it against Nobara, Nanami, Junpei and other random characters was different. He was specifically targetting Yuji.
Even Sukuna enjoyed this part about Mahito when he killed Junpei.
