1) The backstory could simply come later but more importantly...

2) Thank goodness. I'd much rather have no backstory than shit on-screen backstory. Oda already been ruining fellas like Whitebeard, Kaido, Linlin, Oden and Sanji with underwhelming backstories.

Big Mom had a great flashback. I wish it explored more of her older years but what we got was fantastic

To be fair, Sanji was at least the best part of his own backstory. It just sucks that the rest of his family are utterly interesting and the climax of their shared history was just Judge going "You're still a little bitch" before getting Snacked.
