Core gameplay (in this case exploration + combat) is the most important thing in a video game
Exploration? Aside from enemies and the occasional NPC, it's all dead, empty wastelands.

-edit: I should note that Team Ninja's Rise of the Ronin is a Souls style game with actual quests and exploration and things to do then endless combat.

So breath of the wild or any post apocalyptic world without a strong narrative doesn’t have good exploration? Strange take.

Exploration has nothing to do with NPCs. Finding an NPC can be an exploration reward but there’s 0 intrinsic link there.

Souls games have weapons, armors, spells, bosses, and entire play styles to reward the player all of which are more intrinsically motivating than an occasional NPCs to talk with.

Good because the combat is a crazy downgrade from Nioh 2’s and the enemies, bosses, level design, traversal, and itemization are shoddy by soulslikes standards.

Yes, games like Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are better then most Souls games because even though the Calamity did occur, the world of Hyrule is still alive, there's still actual people and villages and the like. And quests, things to actually do and explore. The Lands Between is a dead, empty void apart from enemies.

Crazy how TOTK and BoTW both have inferior legacy dungeons to ER when it’s not even a focus

Also, I don’t even think aside from Sekiro, that the fabled great appeal of Souls games, the combat, is really that special anyway. If you wear full plate armor and still die in two or three hits to some random Mook, then what's the point of even wearing any armor to begin with?

And how much of the Castls is actually doing puzzles and the like instead of just hack and slashing? All you have shown me is a bloated mess with no actual dungeon crawling like any Zelda (or games like a Elder Scrolls) game.
I’ve shown an intricate architectural layout that takes effort to fully explore, that has tons of unique armor, spells, weapons, and boss fights in it.

Elder Scrolls? You mean the randomly generated dungeons in oblivion? Or the Skyrim ones where the puzzles are inserting a key like a toddler.

Or maybe you prefer figuring the 40th draugr overlord in every Skyrim dungeon?

I have a theory that they’re doing this because there’s going to be some fromsoft announcements since it’s the first time 10 years where we don’t know what they’re working on
Could be the case I guess and its a targeted move from keighley to build hype.
However I seen also enough fanboys at this point (especially mainstream press and streamers/youtubers) that pushed this or some shit so I'm not sure

Dont get me wrong I like froms games (especially some of the more experimental one like Demon Souls and prior) but it clearly reeks of a lot of people, especially big streamers and stuff nowadays, that for the first time in their life didn't play some AAA-Sloppa title and their brain short-circuited that From Software spawned out of thin air from the sea of dragon age and COD or something

As much as I like Elden Ring, I think DLCs should get a whole different category than main games. But Elden Ring DLC is so large, it can be considered a whole other game, too. Just like the Xenoblade DLCs.
And they didn't change the category limitation last year where XC3 DLC same out

So, the basic claim of what makes Elden Ring so good is....there's lots of items to find.
