that is, unless “Legend” means something different… Rayleigh is obviously NOT FUCKING EQUAL TO WHITEBEARD… He’s simply not a pushover who can be dealt with Willy nilly

the use of “legend” and “legendary” for these old heads is more a mark of their notoriety… We have direct examples of this

mihawk directly went to Marineford to test out Whitebeard’s legendary status… Blackbeard similarly backed out of Amazon lily sinply

And note that BOTH TIMES, Oda has BOTH Whitebeard and Rayleigh say their hype is over blown… Whitebeard himself says he can’t be the WSM despite the hype everyone around him believes, even his enemies believe it.. And Rayleigh flat out says it was only due to his reputation that teach left and in reality he didn’t have the actual power to fight teach there and then

guys, relax. Scopper Rayleigh and Roger were not and have never been equals… they are simply notorious to the same degree… granting them similar “legendary status”… Same way Garp wasn’t saying fucking Whitebeard and Rayleigh were equals when he called them both legends in the same sentence

That's all fine and good but Oda isn't writing such an introduction for someone who would get low diffed in a fight against Roger. No matter how we twist this, it all ends with Gaban, Ray and Roger being overall much closer than people thought, in everyway. The dialogue is clear.
