The SHs have not been referred to as a family in-story like the WB Pirates for instance and some of them already have family members of their own outside of the crew, blood or not blood-related. Oda has been writing the straw hats as a group pretty poorly post timeskip. Luckily that has been changing recently and odas actually giving the straw hats time together to hang out.

The entire fake Elbaf mini arc was really cute for the EB5

Of course, a mere statement of being legendary is not enough by itself, combat feats are also required to back it up.
