Honest question. Why is Oda so ass at power scaling? Chapter to chapter, there is zero consistency in characters relative strengths. No other mangaka has this problem to this degree. Its so bad it kills any hype the story would normally have because you can't make any expectations on how a character will perform.

The way I see it power levels will always fluctuate for the plot

Exhibit A: All of Marineford

Exhibit B: Crocodile losing to gearless Luffy

Exhibit C: Big Mom forgetting how to use CoC coating

It’s always up to how Oda feels. He isn’t as bad as comic book writers but he’s among the closest when it comes to mangaka. Theres some consistency but Oda completely switches things up when he feels like it
