I have seen a lot of people say he's just average but I always got the impression that he had pretty great feats for his age even excluding his occasional bursts of superhuman strength.

Fair, but I think Dayne had a little better portrayal. Jaime himself respected him in his POV after all.

Plus the guy's entire schtick seemed to be that he was the ultimate swordsman at least as far as I recall.
