I honestly don't mind this development at all. If Oda wants to incorporate a new power system, such as magic or witchcraft, then so be it. devil fruits' existence is already the enigma of One Piece, so this could be the thing that ties it all together, if done well.

Although this all could just be the work of a single df, like another 'god' fruit, or the DEVIL devil fruit.
