But now we are seeing a resurgence of BB FV support.

I think Oda does this intentionally.

But either BB or Imu are red herrings for FV.

Blackbeard aims to be the king of the world, and I dont see Oda just abandoning that plot point. He's probably going to assassinate Imu like he did with Thatch or jump him

We already have the solution for the Swordfriends' Temple fear:
one of Brogy's arm was injured by Imu before he got demonified.
So even if Dorry and Brogy are perfectly equals, and Zoro and Sanji will beat them with the same difficulty, they can say that Dorry was stronger because Brogy was injured, so Zoro is stronger than Sanji.

Luffy will probably extreme diff 10%/100% Imu whilst also having to hold back. But it'll prove just how OP real form Imu is.
So after Luffy defeats GunkImu here, he'll go on a training arc packing up fodder like Blackbeard and Akainu and finally extreme diffing Shanks on Laugh Tale to become the pirate king and also become close to OG Joy Boy in haki, then he'll take on Imu himself in the final arc, surpassing OG JB, Nika and Imu.
He will:
Body Blackbeard to completely master his DF
Body Shanks to level up his haki
Akainu? He'll probably get Lucci'ed and hypetooled by Luffy
And after getting these powerups he'll confront and beat Imu, the final villain
