Given everyone and their mothers have an important dad or mom right now I wouldnt be surprised one bit by that backstory

I think oda is going for the similar stuff to bait us but sure. I just doubt luffy trusting someone and they become evil...didnt happen before as i remember

TBH powerful people being realted aint that far from the real world when we think about the "old money" people that are rich cause their previous family where also rich and probs by some very unethical means (makes sense for CDs)
