No calculated attack to gain something truly important which would drastically damage the WG nor valuable information.

The importance of the GV event was that rocks get kill and nothing was going to be bigger than that .

Let explain:

1) Xebec was the guy who break all tabus in the world (according to Oda), he was the "Tabu Pirate". He wanted become the king of the world, the new Imu
2) He created the strongest crew of all time to achieve his goal
3) Oda made us think Roger and Garp joined to defeat him because Xebec was like the biggest menace ever

So what everyone thought? GV would be the most important event to understand a lot of stuff about the op story, characters of old gen, the tabus, the world, the wg....

I admittedly did think it was important to the overall story of One Piece, not so much Roger's journey to become PK, but the relevance of what is setting up the series finale. Shanks possibly being picked up there, what the crown jewel's importance was if it had any towards stopping the WG or accessing something within Hachinosu, leads to important characters that know more about the inner workings of the WG. I don't know, at the very least I assumed there was something there critical toward the resolution of the story if but not for the fact that Saturn was also present and was the last time he was below the Red Line in 38 years. The fight just being about a girl and having some collateral effect of the story is a let down for me, but that's entirely on me hyping expectations with no real baring.
