It was never implied once that GV had anything to do with the Void Century or the lore of the series, yes it’s a big battle but not that different from your modern day Dressrosa, Enies Lobby, Alabasta and so on.

Unlike Luffy, who’s the main character, other pirates don’t constantly get into big fight events on a daily basis, so if Ennies Lobby were to happen in Roger’s era, it would be a big deal too

She’s probably not just the reason, the fight would escalate into something more. Why else would Roger fight Rocks if all they wanted was to save Shakky?
We know that there were df prizes, maybe the WG baited Rocks with the exact fruits that he needed. The crew has a spy so the government will have access to that info.

I didnt say GV has something to do with void century lol, I said GV incident is the most important incident since the void century
And yes it was hinted by Oda that GV was more important than any event we saw early in the series
I already made a list of the reasons for that

They freed a woman because of simping and even teamed up with the WG
Strawhats saved Robin for friendship and fought against the WG
