Good character, but shitty level and feats compared to the hype.

Fishmen were hyped to be ten times stronger than humans etc. and Sunbell and that one in Rocks excluded since we know nothing, the strongest Fishman Is Jinbe (Who was said to be on par with FT... And that was a young Jinbe compared to now).

I kinda get what Oda's trying to say with that decision to not have Hody be a victim yet also be the biggest bigot around.

But it really destroyed any chance of that character being seen as anything but a wet napkin of a character. Literally there is nothing remotely interesting about a random racist pirate who looks up to Arlong.

i think it might hit a bit harder if you have experienced racism. maybe.
racists are hardly logical. they just hate for the sake of it.

oda could have definitely made him a better antagonist to portray it better tho.

I’m sure plenty of shounen had the final villain introduced early, Demon Slayer is the first thing that comes up to my mind. Muzan could have wiped them all out if he just tried hard to locate the hashiras‘ base. He thinks they’re not a threat to him since he slaughtered them for hundreds of years. This is a similar situation with Imu and the World Government. They probably got complacent through the years.

He could've removed the bases of support for a reincarnated joyboy with ease anytime he wanted
He has teleportation and dozens of top tiers at his service with the ability to make more with the flick of a finger.
It literally takes him like half a day to have all the god knights and gorosei teleport into any yonko base they want and demolish them.

Like maybe BB is partying and boom 7 top tiers with dozens of high tiers appear on his island.
Could have destroyed the allied joyboy nations like Wano and Elbaf with ease too.
Not to mention he didn't focus on the Nika until he awakened.

You don´t think that Hody being someone who believed that the entire century long oppression of his people was on his shoulder is potentially more interesting then him simply having a personal grievance? And at least we have a conflict between his ideals and the rulers of FMI who want to befriend humans, which is more then a lot of OP villains, and him inheriting the bad parts of Fisher Tiger´s ideology(though that isn´t saying a lot)

Of course, Hody and his crew were pathetic jobbers and weaklings who didn´t bring any sense of threat to the arc, but from a purely character perspective, I think he´s better then a lot of OP villains(especially anyone in Elbaf rn, or Blackbeards simp dad)
