Angewomon is such a baddie.
I'm saying, Rocks got Domi Reversi'd, but by Davy Jones, not Imu

No proof only Imu can use Domi Reversi

Rocks finds his dead wife, crashes out, and uses the Davy Jones equivalent of Domi Reversi.

This explains Garp and Roger's team up: Domi Reversi Rocks would be a legit threat they'd have to work together on
I think you mentioned it already but selling your soul to the devil right? The devil's pact? Davy Jones as the actual sea devil and Imu is usurping/imitating that maybe as "Umi"? I wonder if Imu is meant to be Calypso too then?

Imagine like how you get powers from the devil fruits and thus the OP version of asking the devil to grant you powers but a more extreme version where you can tap into Davy Jones' power or something primordial/supernatural/fantastical or w/e, a literal godly power but like the Domi Reversi, it transforms you but maybe permanently or until it kills you ultimately? Kinda like how "the hero water" in Alabasta was meant to give you a massive power boost but would kill you ultimately afterwards?

I wonder about that "hero water" too, heh....One of the more interesting things about OP that often goes overlooked and forgotten...imagine if it was related to the fountain of youth or something equivalent of that in OP somehow? Id love to know what the inspirations of it were.

HMMMMM......

Water as a Symbol of Life and Death

In desert-themed stories and myths (like those from the Middle East and ancient Egypt that heavily inspired the Alabasta arc), water is a powerful symbol. It represents life, purity, and hope. The Hero Water subverts this symbol by being a source of both power and death.

  • Egyptian Mythology and the Nile: Ancient Egyptian civilization was entirely dependent on the Nile River. Its presence meant life, its absence, death. The very idea of a "heroic" water that brings death is a dark twist on this central theme of life-giving water in a desert landscape. The rain dance and the artificial rain in Alabasta also fit into this larger theme of water as a source of life and conflict.

The connection between the Fountain of Youth and One Piece's Hero Water is a fascinating one, but it's more of an inversion than a direct parallel. They both deal with the concept of a magical water source that grants a specific, powerful effect, but they do so in completely opposite ways.

Here's how they relate:

The Fountain of Youth

What it grants: Eternal youth, or a reversal of the aging process. It is a mythical source of life, health, and vitality.

The quest for it: The search for the Fountain of Youth, famously associated with Juan Ponce de León, is a quest for immortality and physical perfection. It is a symbol of humanity's desire to cheat death and remain forever young.

Mythological context: The legend is found in many cultures and often has roots in ancient myths about restorative springs, healing waters, and elixirs of life. The water is a source of hope and a promise of a better, longer existence.

Hero Water in One Piece

What it grants: A temporary, immense boost in strength and combat ability.

The cost: The user's life. It is not a fountain of life, but a potion of self-sacrifice and death. The more a user drinks, the more strength they gain, but the faster the poison takes effect.

Narrative purpose: The Hero Water serves as a desperate, last-ditch effort. It is the antithesis of the Fountain of Youth. Instead of a quest for eternal life, it's a grim acceptance of an inevitable, immediate end for a greater cause—the protection of a kingdom.

The Inverted Relationship

The Hero Water is essentially an "Anti-Fountain of Youth."

The Fountain of Youth promises life, but the Hero Water delivers death.

The Fountain of Youth is sought by those who wish to live longer, while the Hero Water is consumed by those prepared to die sooner.

The Fountain of Youth is a symbol of hope and immortality, while the Hero Water represents desperation and sacrifice.

This inversion is very much in line with the themes of the Alabasta arc. The kingdom is on the brink of collapse due to the lack of water, a symbol of life itself. The "Hero Water" is a cruel irony, a poisonous substitute for what the people truly need. It highlights the desperation of the Tsumegeri Guards and the dark path they are willing to take for their country, a path that ultimately leads to their demise. It's a tragic twist on a classic mythological trope, transforming a legend of eternal life into a grim fable of self-destruction for a cause.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Fountain of Youth as depicted in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides has a strong connection to the Hero Water, but as an even darker and more ritualistic inversion of the classic myth.

The POTC4 Fountain of Youth

Unlike the simple, life-giving water of the original legend, the Fountain in On Stranger Tides is a magical artifact tied to a complex and deadly Profane Ritual. This ritual requires three key components:

Water from the Fountain itself.

Two specific silver chalices from Ponce de León's ship.

The tear of a mermaid.

The ritual is a zero-sum game of life and death: the person who drinks from the chalice with the mermaid's tear gains all the years of life that the other person in the ritual has lived and would have lived. The second person, who drinks from the chalice without the tear, dies.

This version is a deliberate and grim inversion of the myth. It's not a source of universal life, but a tool for one person to gain years at the direct, fatal expense of another. This twist emphasizes themes of sacrifice, greed, and the transactional nature of life, which aligns closely with the Hero Water. Both are liquids that grant a form of power or extended life, but only through the immediate and permanent sacrifice of another person or the user themselves.

The Hero Water is a more direct, but self-contained, version of this: the user gains immense strength for a short time, but at the cost of their own life. It is a sacrifice made for the greater good of the kingdom. The Fountain of Youth in POTC4 is more selfish; the sacrifice is made by someone else so that one person can gain a new life. Both concepts underscore that true power or immortality comes at a terrible price, twisting the traditional myth to fit a more cynical and dramatic narrative.

But if imu is evil, then davy should be good. Thus his domi reversi should turn evil peeps into good peeps right?

No reason for Rocks to go berserk.
I think Davy Jones is the Pirate equivalent to Imu: complete rat bastard willing to sell anyone out, who became the "God of the Pirates", or the Devil of the Pirates, I guess. Davy Jones has a bad reputation amongst Pirates, whereas Kaido was very fond of Rocks, and Rocks bad reputation came from the WG.

Davy Jones being hated by Pirates makes me think he became a horrible person, if he wasn't one to begin with.

Oda's original concepts for the series had a three-power system:
1. The WG
2. Bad Pirates (Morganeers)
3. Good Pirates (Peace Mains)

Imu represents the WG
Davy Jones represents Bad Pirates
Nika/Luffy represents Good Pirates

That's how I'm viewing it at this point.

“I am the hope of the Universe…I am the answer to all living things that cry out for peace…I am the protector of the innocent…I am the light in the darkness…I am the truth. Ally to good…Nightmare to you!”

“You seem to delight in seeing other people suffer. And you treat life like a disposable commodity. You destroy homes. You take the lives of innocent, peace-loving people. You even take the lives of children. And all of this, for your own amusement or personal gain. Well, now it’s your turn.”

Nappa: I’m the second strongest Saiyan from the Planet Vegeta! Goku: Well, if your friend is stronger than you, I guess you’re the third strongest Saiyan now.”

“Low-ranker, elite, whatever. You can beat anyone; it’s called hard work!”

” Vegeta knows it too. Through my dreams, I could hear him speaking what I had also felt. That there is a level beyond that of a Super Saiyan. And I will rise to claim it.”

“Goku: It’s done! Frieza: What do you mean? You said it’s done; what do you mean? Goku: Your energy level is decreasing with every blow. In fact, you’re not even a challenge to me anymore. It wouldn’t be fair for me to keep fighting you. I’m satisfied now. Your pride has been torn to shreds. You’ve challenged and lost to a fighter who is superior to you, and to make it worse… he’s just a monkey…right?” It would be meaningless to fight you now; you’re too scared and ashamed. Live with the shock. Keep it bottled up inside you. Silently. Goodbye, Frieza, never make mischief again. May you live the rest of your life in peace.”

” Goodbye, Vegeta. You’re not as cold-hearted as you believed yourself to be. A heart of stone can’t shed tears as you did. You must have been holding them back your whole life. I’m the only one left. I think I understand you now. You weren’t grieving over your own death or because our home planet was destroyed. You were grieving because he turned you into what he wanted you to be. You never had a chance to be anything else. Well, I still respect you. I know you made a lot of mistakes, but now I see that it wasn’t all your fault. You had the fiery will of a Saiyan. Please share that with me now, because I need it. Thank you for saving my son’s life and buying enough time for me to recuperate. I’ll do my best to carry out your wish. (to Frieza) It’s true—Vegeta’s right. You have no honor. For him. And for everyone else you’ve destroyed, I am going to finish you.”

“Besides my grandpa, you’re the only human being I’ve ever seen.”

“Maybe you’ll come back someday as…as a better person, I hope. I’d like that. Perhaps we’ll have a little one on one.”

“Sometimes life is too uncertain to have regrets.”

@Logiko
I used to love Saitama but after a certain entirely story and lore ruining reveal about him, I dropped the series and completely hated it after that. Hence I can't respect him anymore either.
