Carrot was trained to use the sword by Shishi, Pedro took her under his wing despite the former's protest, she learned to control Sulong at will showing a prodigy. All the tribe with no question accept her as their king because they probably all know something grander here and it all does tie to inheriting Pedro's will. There's a lot of mirroring between she and Luffy, I believe her background ties more with the moon. And should that come into play it'll unravel there.
