I have said this before,
Shanks, Roger, Xebec uses ID and Emission instead of cutting. It's like shortcut of doing damage. Bypassing the defense.
Cutting opponent requires real skill.

Odd fact, from everything we have seen, GV Garling actually has a lower rank than Shamrock.

GV Garling was simply introduced as a holy knight

Whereas Shamrock was the commander of the holy knights. Pre Gorosei Garling was called supreme commander of the holy knights(may or may not be Shamrock’s rank).

We still don’t know who was the HK commander during GV.

My theory, it was Peter. A Gorosei fell during GV and Peter replaced him.
