If this goes on much longer, considering the Toei change to 26 episodes or less a year, still adapting on a 1:1 manga/anime ratio, there's a legit chance Loki's flashback lasts an entire year in the anime.

I think Kaido was referencing how the Rocks Pirates started fighting each other for treasure, then left as soon as things went bad.
If Kaido and Linlin actually fled, then it's likely this:
Kaido didn't know about Domi Reversi at the time, then learned of it later, and realized Roger, the man he hated, stayed behind to stop his Captain, while Kaido fled.
IMO, Kaido's obsession with the Samurai dying for Oden, is directly related to Kaido's suicidal nature, after failing/fleeing his Captain at his lowest.
The Pirate that Kaido hates for fleeing Rocks, is Kaido. Kaido chose fear over Rocks, and he's regretted it ever since.
