If Kidd and Luffy didn´t fight when they were both up and coming supernova, why would they even fight at this point, now that they´ve had a history of working together, and Luffy is of a higher status, lol?
It´s not literally impossible, but Kidd would not be taken seriously as an antagonist at this point, frankly.

-Rocks wings slice Roger/Garp
-Garp holds Rocks arm, and Roger severs it

Laban said "long time no see" 
This would pretty much be pointless at this point in the story. The Strawhats have 3 rps, they´ve encountered Imu, all the major characters have gone into action, what would be the point of an extremely low stake fight like this, lol?
There simply hasn't been a scenario/environment to fight each other head to head...pretty much every time they've interacted there's always been a larger/more important foe to fight.
From the moment Luffy,Law,Kidd were introduced Kidd has mentioned fighting Luffy. Even later when they met at Wano and in prison it was mentioned as well. And more recently when they left wano to go into 3 different directions. I believe this has been in the buildup for a while since the supernova were introduced. Oda has clearly made the relationship between Kidd/Luffy different when compared to relationship between Luffy/Law. Would Law ever fight Luffy head to head? No. Would Kidd? Absolutely.
We saw when Kaido first landed he and Killer were willing to fight Kaido to death. The only reason Kidd is alive today is because Kaido spared him. Ironically, this is very similiar to Luffy's first interaction with Kaido. And even more interesting Kaido decided to spare them both while also briefly mentioning their conq haki...
Ask yourself, If Kidd and luffy had a reason to fight each other, or even just Kidd...Would either character back down? And yes I believe there will be a reason for Kidd to fight Luffy.
The catalyst for their battle will be Shanks.

Not going to write all of it here, but Kidd/Luffy have an inverse relationship with Shanks. Shanks is the idol/savior for Luffy. While we know Kidd views Shanks as enemy, almost as an ultimate enemy and to this day, we still don't know the reasoning behind that, but we do know Kidd has been focused on Shanks since day 1.
And obviously we know Kidd was recently destroyed by Shanks/Dorry/Broggy, along with his crew and ship..the Victoria Punk. Oda obviously had this done off the shores of Elbaf for a reason. Kidd will return in Elbaf. Oda could have had Kidd destroyed by BB or even somewhere else, but Elbaf was chosen.
At some point Luffy will learn about the incident that occurred with Kidd and Shanks. Either from the giants or at some point on elbaf/egghead. At some-point during elbaf, Kidd will learn about Luffy's relationship with Shanks/Dorry/Broggy. This will probably infuriate Kidd. I honestly would not be surprised if Kidd ends up attacking first.
Something other things you have to think of
- Will Loki have a role in this? We know Loki also shares a hatred of Shanks. Kidd is the only other character that shares an unusual hatred of Shanks...Loki obviously also happens to be on Elbaf..interesting coincidence
- Why did Oda have Kidd be the first character in the story to mention the burned man? He will be the first person to meet the burned man. Additionally, the burned man will be a path back to race for the One piece. I also believe its possible Kidd could potentially receive some type of mentoring from the burned man. My personal guess is Davy Jones, but other believe it could be Gaban etc...
- And yes at the moment Kidd would not be much of a fight for Luffy. However, Kidd has the most room to grow out of any supernova/potential top tier. He's made it this far with no haki usage, no fs, no mentors, etc..And hes already accomplished the feat of taking down a yonko. This is potentially where the burned man can come into play. Kidd with acoc/fs would be quite a threat. We saw punk corna dio break a powered up big mom's arm...We saw big mom immediately burn lifespan after punk crash...We saw big mom soul pocus + acoc overpowered by damned punk...I honestly don't think anyone is surviving these attacks + acoc.
- Something else to mention, we've learned about the how special the fruits are for Law and Luffy. We will learn something new about the fruit that Kidd posseses. This could potentially affect the fight vs joyboy.
Every time Kidd has taken an L, he comes back with a huge return. This has been consistent since he was introduced into the story. He recently defeated a yonko and now has taken a huge loss..What will he do when he returns?
And ask yourself, why would Oda even draw the Demaro black panel? And why would he compare kidd to Joyboy(he could have said Luffy, but he said Joyboy)..a very strange choice, considering Kidd is no longer in the story...Everyone is laughing right now, but not seeing the bigger picture...Which other characters have been directly/indirectly compared to Joyboy?...Imu, Roger, Kaido, Shanks, Teach, Rocks...

Haki blooms from fights... I think Kidd could beat Luffy in a 1v1. Depends on what Kidd has been doing since.
Luffy relies heavily on outside interference/luck in fights, he typically struggles in pure 1v1s, due to Gear 4/Gear 5's cooldowns. Last guy Luffy fought 1v1 who truly wanted to beat the shit out of him was Doffy. Kaido wanted Joy Boy, and Kizaru was throwing the whole arc.
Can Luffy knock Kidd out in one Gear 5 usage? I don't know, depends on where they fight.
I think Law is on Luffy's level, as well, and that Teach is much closer to Shanks/Kaido than Luffy/Law/Kidd.
I really don't think Luffy is much stronger, if really stronger, than Kidd/Law, especially when Haki gets stronger from fighting people with strong Haki, and Shanks/Teach both have bounties around 4 Billion. We haven't seen a bounty near there that isn't a Haki monster.
Big question is Adv CoC. If Kidd has a solid handle on it, he can challenge Luffy. If not, Luffy mid/high-diffs. Interested to see how Luffy gets around Assign.

This is all fine, and could have been a plot point, like, 10 years ago? At that point, luffy and Kidd were not really on anything like good terms, and were just coming into the new world, both dreaming of taking down Yonko. Sure, there wasn´t necessarily a particular situation where this could have happened as per the current story, but it wouldn´t have been impossible for Oda to have Kidd and Luffy end up in the same island in the early new world days, FMI, Ph, DR or whatever, really. At that point in the story, there power levels and in verse status would be close, and a simple pirate fight would have worked, but at this point in the story? On Elbaf rn, you have Imu about to enslave the entire country to lead a final war of demons, and he´s probably connected to the deaths of Harald and also Xebec as shown in the flashback, and there´s also the Gunko plot point stuff, and you also think Kidd will show up, and fight Luffy over their opinions on Shanks? That just lacks the stakes of the current vibes of OP, which is about the entire world drowning, who will be the king of the world etc. Btw, Luffy also said he wants to take down Shanks, so him pearl clutching so hard he fights Kidd over wanting to do the same would just be beyond hypocritical, and I´m not even sure why anyone would even root for him in that situation. Also, Kidd´s crew doesn´t really have people to fight the SHP, so that´s also an issue.
I also wanted a Loki fight against the strawhats, but the way the story is going, with him being seriously injured, and now teaming up with Luffy to fight Imu.... it really does not look like that will ever happen. I don´t seriously think he will backstab Luffy to work with Kidd after that. And yeah, Kidd could have some connection to the burned man, I don´t really disagree with that, I guess.
That´s fine and all, and i don´t doubt Kidd will return(no one really dies in OP) and get stronger, but it´s pretty rare for Oda to have Luffy be punching down, which it realistically would be. Luffy´s status in verse is simply higher, which is why Oda most likely be focusing on having Luffy fight characters who are around his status or above, Akainu, Imu, Teach, idk Warcury or whatever, etc etc. And noticably, these characters are all like, more evil then Kidd, and play better in the antagonistic role. Kidd at this point would realistically just be an ally of Luffy against the WG or whoever
