I think this is what happened:
- Rocks and WB clashed, matching in power
- Rocks used more power, leading to WB making that expression
- WB used more power in response
- resulting clash was so big that half the island/mountain split

Two possibilities after this:
- both were sent flying, but they defended so no injuries on either side
- WB was overpowered and got pushed back, but he still defended and no injuries

In either case, Whitebeard was 99.9% chance just standing and wasn't in a position where he couldn't have stopped Rocks from running away.
He could've got in Rocks' way again IF he wanted to. But he didn't. Either he took Rocks' words to heart, got demoralized and didn't want to do anything. Or, Whitebeard just stood watching like Roger and Garp did, and didn't stop Rocks from running away for no real reason (this is likely the case considering we're talking about modern Loda).

What is clear at this point is that Rocks didn't run off because Whitebeard wasn't in a position to stop him anymore, like how some speculated in last chapter. Cause clearly nothing happened to the dude.

Whitebeard managed to momentarily clash with DR Xebec using pure Gura, and Law can do the same. Law’s AP is incredibly potent, it wrecked Big Mom while her younger self was fine after DR Xebec’s attack.

People really expected the old gen to have feats that make the current gen look like fodder, in reality it's almost the opposite, nothing we have seen on God Valley comes close to Kaido and Luffy's clash.

Oda didn't use large scale attacks much in GV. For example, Garp's first punch covered most of Teach Island, and the same punch in GV didn't have much of an effect at all.
