Katakuri is the son of a women who built an empire, and has been a natural born leader since he was young, who people naturally gravitate towards,and is incredibly aggressive and quick to action, willing to kill even his countries own chefs for perceived disrespect, and trying to kill anyone he sees as an opponent to his empire, even if their crimes are as little as missing a tea party. If anything, the fact that Katakuri has it and his siblings don't, is proof that there are legitimate qualifications for it.

Katakuri knew he has no chance against BM lol. He was no conqueror. As BM put it , he was a "mere" child for her. If katakuri was a conqueror he would have detected with those who would be more loyal to him and start his own crew 😂

Katakuri doesn't need to break up his family to prove he has the qualities of a king, nor does he have to personally fight every character he has an issue with(You could literally not have a single character deserving COC if that was the criteria). Katakuri rules his own island that was entrusted to him, and has a Kim Jong Un tier cult of personality created around him, not even necessarily by the man himself. People naturally gravitate to him. Now that BM is dead, Kata doesn't even need to claim the throne, people will naturally want him to lead the crew. He pretty obviously has qualities of a king.
