I'd have been dubious of this in the past but is probably true, I've used Reddit before and the botting, astroturfing and iron-fisted control freak moderator behaviour is off the charts.
There have been exposes of this sort of thing too. In general seeing online rhetoric I would not be surprised if there was an active ongoing attempt to shut down rational discussion in favour of hyperaggressive partisanry.
From what I hear Twitter's always been like that too, FB and Insta as well.
