Honestly, what even happened to Smoker as a character? There’s no way that Oda always intended for him to be as irrelevant as he ended up being. He’s not even as relevant to the new gen as Sengoku was to the old gen

One Piece has been going on for way too long for its own good
Stuff like straw hats being mostly static after getting their development wouldn't be an issue if the series wasn't like 27+ years long

Yea the original 5 year goal would have been perfect for each character's development. No static background behavior of supposed main characters, no years of inactivity for characters like Dragon, Mihawk etc. But It would've meant less ¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥ for Ecchiro "I want ATM next to my home" Goda, the most accomplished mangaka to have ever lived with an entry in the Guinness world record book so I guess it was worth sacrificing the story for. As we all know, fame, wealth and power come before writing a good story.

Yeah, I said Smoker being a fan favorite still wasn´t enough for him to get past Vergo, not that Vergo was himself anyones favorite.

Ngl, Fuji was pretty well written in Dressrosa, but Oda completely ruined his character in the Reverie.

Fuji should’ve been like Suzaku from Code Geass, a genuinely good guy who works for an evil organization because he believes that changing the system from within is better than rebelling and causing chaos and destruction. But then Oda had to go and make him a straight up Revolutionary by having him free slaves right in front of another Admiral and a bunch of CDs in the heart of the Holy Land.

Back in Dressrosa, Fuji had to find convenient excuses to feign incompetence in order to get out of following orders he didn’t approve of. Such as how he used fighting RA 2nd in command, Sabo, as a convenient excuse for not being able to help Doffy, or how he used the citizens surrounding him as a convenient excuse for why he couldn’t attack Luffy. Oda SHOULD have done something like have it be only the Revs who freed the slaves, but Fuji pretending not to notice and letting the slaves run past him, with Aramaki then calling Fuji out on his bullshit and start fighting him.

I don't know. I feel like Fujitora being a straight up Revolutionary would be more like him directly freeing the slaves.

I don't think his character has been ruined yet, lol.

Trust Fujitora will not be a complete Revolutionary. Next time we will see him going off against pirates

Oda had no reason to not let him defeat Vergo, but he just made Vergo too strong for whatever reason. Back then I guess the underling tax didn't kick in, Vergo was moving like a demon. Big picture it just didn't make sense to not sacrifice Vergo for Smoker and cook something else for Law. That was Smoker's fight, he already got put down by Law but you could atleast say Law is too hax, whereas with Vergo he just couldn't overpower him.
