These arent battle tested warriors, they are sycophants. At least Saturn is. No different from Charlos. They just sit in their room in Mariejois while everyone else does the work.
Saturn probably never had to face any actual combat, add in the usual CD arrogance mixed with immortality that nothing can truly hurt them anyway. Nobody dares fight CDs, so of course someone like Saturn ends up legitimately overwhelmed when someone like Kuma does square up.

Saturn identified as a Scientist, and is walking around with a cane. Saturn definitely wasn't trained, IMO. Strong, but not skilled.

I think this generation of God's Knight is a lot stronger, too, because post God Valley Imu told Garling to put them through more training.

To be promoted to Gorosei, you need to first be captain of the holy knights.
