I'm rereading the Hidan and Kakuzu arc, and man. Kishi was 1 non MC dickriding session away from writing the best arc in shonen history. Kakazu really was set up for failure by having a sadistic moron like Hidan as his partner.

Naruto vs Kakuzu probably would’ve been fine if the editor didn’t force Kishi to rush to the Saucegay stuff

Naruto would've benefited immensely from that, we'd likely see a chapter or two of him fighting Kakuzu pretty evenly before using rasenshuriken. As it stands now, Pre-Sage Mode Naruto does look like a fodder compared to the early versions of Sasuke

Honestly Hidan and Kakuzu were equipped for literally anything but Shikamaru. No amount of traditional power can overcome them, you can't brute force your way to beating those two. No intel on Hidan, both of them immortal and only need a drop of blood. It's a losing battle for anyone, the two tails learned that the hard way.

Shadow possession/sewing is like the perfect counter to Hidan, and ofcourse the highest IQ in the verse to immediately figure out his jutsu.

Actually every Akatsuki member ran into the worst counter to them. Kisame against Gai, Deidara against Sasuke, Sasori against his Grandma. Kishi always set them up for failure.
