Youre losing all sense of sanity just because you want to shit on Mihawk I get it, but Shanks was literally like late 20s when this chapter happened. It makes no sense for that version to be stronger then current Yonko Shanks.

Mihawks words are from his POV and can be interpreted as Mihawks own pride not wanting to fight a one armed guy. Nothing indicates Shanks didnt grow in strength whereas everything indicates that he did.
