The general rule with One Piece is: Bad guys can kill characters but not the good guys. That holds true even in flashbacks. I think the only character in the whole of one piece that you could argue was killed by the good guys was Kanjuro and even then technically he died because of a suicide attack.

Yes, they would question his power if he defeated Kid because of his connection to Zoro. Mihawk defeated the three seraphims the WG send to empty Bluff and that feat gets ignored.
