Because a lot of people’s main issue is how easily the problem is solved. Luffy beating his chest and instantly freeing everyone is just as easy and makes the Nika fruit even more important which a lot of people critique

I feel like if his drum only worked on those with high willpower of CoC at first (before he masters it) that it should be fine.

I know people will complain regardless but Id rather take that over this thing that we got.

He at least had the excuse of that being a very, very new trope at the time. You can say it's an asspull and contrived but he was one of the very first to do it, so it made more sense back then.
Also, one example of sloppy writing doesn't indicate bad writing all around. YYH was still written far better than this dog shit

Like here Dorry and Brogy are the major DR threats and they obviously have high willpower so they’d be freed. The problem is that instantly resolves the issue because nobody really cares about other fodder DR giants
