I lived in NA briefly, but not at the moment.
I feel like Japan-NA are complete opposites on both extremes of OP´s popularity lol. In NA, it´s a looot smaller than Naruto and even Bleach, while in Japan Bleach isn´t really that big and Nardo sort of isn´t either.
The rest of the world is more of a middle ground I think. The only thing true everywhere is that Dragon ball is the biggest

Nah, the sheer volume of content is what filters out the hypebeasts.
Nobody reads a 1000 chapters just because they want to be part of the conversation.
The ones that give it a go and stick with it all the way have to love it.
The most critical fans of long-running serialisations tend to be the biggest fans. The strength of their criticism and emotions just reflect how invested they are.

HxH is kinda sorta above that depending on the arc. Chimera/Election and the Hisoka fight are the 2 main sections that stand out as being kinda Mickey
I honestly believed prior to reading HxH, that HxH fans are elitist little bitches, but they certainly have more right than OP fans, at least in my opinion.

Tbh I feel like that applies to a lot of series nowadays. A lot of people I've seen discussing things in fandoms often seem very clueless even about basic things.
I once saw someone say that, when it comes to discussing fiction, a lot of people don't even fully interact with the thing they are talking about outside of Tiktoks, reels etc and that sounded very believable to me based on past experience.
Could definitely be a case of bandwagoning, like "this series is popular so I'll get vaguely into it".

The agenda piece is exactly the reason why I dislike the so-called One Piece fanbase. Again, watching reactions to even the WCI arc is fun because there's no agenda, and you can see exactly how you would feel if the One Piece fanbase weren't toxic. Especially toxic agenda comes from "fans" whose agenda was crushed, like Kurwa and others, and now they are just shitting on the One Piece story.

Kaido gets gassed a lot because he has presence despite his poor writing. Don’t really see how that makes up for it but that’s enough for some people
