Oda was so focused on the Oden wank that he forgot to build a proper relationship between the straw hats and scabbards. Some of them have been with the crew for like 300 chapters yet their connection feel quite shallow

Which is why them dying is pointless when the viewers aren't that connected

Hyogoro on the other hand, connected very well with Luffy and viewers

Otama as well

can you imagine Kaido killing Otama right on screen while Luffy is on the ground?
And Luffy couldn't protect O-tama, who is a reminiscent of Ace!

The point, Death should matter to SHs. With all respect to Red Scabbards, only Kinemon counts as impactful for SH crew. The rest would be just meh
And even Kinemon isn't really that much popular by fans/viewers

So it may be big for Luffy and co, but not big with us fans
