I think Luffy is nerfed by the fact he still probably thinks his DF is the gomu gomu no mi.

As we have seen, the Nika fruit can probably do literally anything. Luffy turned into a genie, he can create items out of thin air. He is limited only by his imagination.

Yet so long as Luffy thinks his DF is the gomu gomu no mi, he will never be able to use his fruit to its true potential.

I’m guessing Vegapunk reveals to Luffy the truth of his power after Luffy’s current defeat. Then in round 2 of Luffy vs Imu, we see Luffy being out the full potential of G5 via reality bending.

Next power up will be most likely giants/Gaban telling luffy about the white form and what it can actually do.
