Because that just how Oda writes .
Egghead was not huge L like other arcs but luffy face villain for first time normally a L the question how big .
The other question is how interesting after the L going to be .

I feel like this kills the idea that the 20 Kings were a bunch of scrubs

I mean I’m sure they were all significantly weaker than Imu or Joyboy but as we can see that’s clearly not saying much

I wouldn’t really be surprised if they were all high or top tiers

People that think 20 king fodder to me made no sense.
These people were up vs joyboy and what look like insane crew in a insane time .
